San Francisco, USA and Sydney, Australia, August 20, 2008, FST, a world leading provider of user interface technologies for manufacturers of embedded devices, today announced support for Intel® Atom™ processor Z5xx series and Moblin (www.moblin.org) based Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs). The resulting solution will deliver eye-catching graphics, high-performance multimedia capabilities, and intuitive user interfaces for MID customers.
The FancyPants SDK for MIDs provides a powerful and easy to use API, with an embedded runtime optimised for available hardware, including graphics acceleration and native CODECs, with live demo videos and fully functional evaluation kit accessed via www.fluffyspider.com. Target markets also include smart phones, portable media players, digital picture frames, TV set-top boxes, in-car telematics / infotainment, kiosks, building automation systems and medical devices.
The flexible design of the FancyPants plug-in architecture enables effortless integration of hardware, CODECs, and embedded browsers, while the sophisticated theming capability maximises branding and personalisation opportunities. A range of built in visual special effects are also incorporated.
FST demonstrated an Asus EeePC, at ESC2008-Silicon Valley, with multiple videos and visual effects running simultaneously with FancyPants' OpenGL rendering option. Using FancyPants, FST has now created an impressive launcher for embedded applications and an in-line media application (multilingual) on the new Compal JAX10 MID, featuring the Intel Atom processor at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco (August 19-21, 2008).
A live demo video of the latter is available at www.fluffyspider.com/demos/live_videos/flv/fancypants-compal-launcher-grid.html
“FST is offering superior options, including turnkey solutions, for next generation GUI devices. We're pleased to be working with Intel on upcoming Mobile Internet Devices,” said Robi Karp, CEO, FST.
“Mobile Internet Devices offer a full and uncompromised Internet to the user,” said Pankaj Kedia, director of Global Ecosystem Programs in Intel Corporation's Ultra Mobility Group. “FST's expertise in delivering compelling GUI solutions on Intel Atom processor-based MIDs should make it easier for the MID user to truly enjoy the best Internet experience with rich and intuitive GUIs in these devices.”
